Going electric was pretty much a novelty at the time, and the white lights generated a lot of traffic. It began when brothers A.A. and A.K. Nasrallah built a one-story yellow-brick structure at Park and King streets in 1927. They installed a row of white electric street lamps around the building about 20 feet apart. Soon after, nearby business owners followed suit and installed the same lighting.
As Park and King aged, the need for revitalization reached a peak in 1990 after the vacancy rates soared. Many of the property owners began pouring money into their businesses and association members conducted cleanups. But the need for a master plan became apparent to make improvements consistent. The plan was drawn up during a 1998 brainstorming session with city planners, architects and community members. Slowly, the small neighborhood regained it's luster. Now it is home to our newest office, VIKA South.
