Effective today, a new zoning ordinance in Fairfax County, Virginia, is in effect. Applications submitted and accepted before July 1, 2021, will have until July 1, 2022, to obtain approval under the old zoning ordinance.
The structural updates in the new ordinance aim to facilitate the applicant’s experience and to improve current regulations. The new ordinance changes include the creation of additional new zoning categories, list of permitted uses in the different districts, along with modified definitions, and submission requirements.
Note that rezoning, special exceptions, special permitting, and variances applications will be filed electronically through Fairfax County’s Planning Land Use System (PLUS).
